Day 117

“般若心経”

On this last day of 2009 I’m reviewing the almost passed year… And beneath starting this project the most important thing this year was my trip to Japan. I’m maybe traveling for photos or seeing other cultures, but to be honest, I travel a lot to find myself, my place in this world and what I really want in my life. That’s why most of the time I’m traveling alone…

And because my Japan trip was such important for me I want to share something from it with you. You can see here a lovely handwritten transcription of the ‘Hannya shingyo’ (般若心経), the “Heart of Perfect Wisdom” sutra. It was given to me as a gift from the nice girl who guided me through Japans culture and beauty :-) I hope it’s ok that I use this photo here… The mustard color folded paper is a fold-up paper crane. The transcription and the crane were fold-up together in a self-made envelope with my name in Kanji on it. So beautiful!

Now it’s time for my interpretation / idea behind this photo… Everything in this world is fold-up. Even the people. Our ‘life’s plan’ is written down and fold-up, and we hide it together with our souls in a tiny shell, to protect it. Nobody can reach it except ourselves. The crane symbolizes for me that it’s time to break out of that shell, to live your life! Like I wrote on yesterdays photo… It’s time to live your dreams, to pursue them, to believe in them, to make them reality…

Happy New Year 2010!

Beautiful shot. I love paper cranes. And Japan, too.
    Happy 2010, Vincent. :)
